Welcome to Our Website

In an effort to give you the broadest picture of our work—and the talented architects and designers who are doing it—we’ve created project galleries and other sections for you to browse and learn.

Whether it’s a new home designed in the traditional vernacular,

Or an entirely modern concept,

You’ll find projects that demonstrate how we cater to each client’s specific tastes and needs.

For those interested in renovations or additions, you’ll see that we’re keenly sensitive to the existing structural aesthetic as we work to preserve and improve upon it.

Our favorite examples include this project, which complements the great architect John Russell Pope’s original design at this home in Northwest Washington:

Upgrades and additions to the renowned Marwood estate on the Potomac River:

And the extensive renovations we had to make to preserve this Queen Anne masterpiece:

Looking for a vacation home? Many of our clients have asked us to design them, such as this stunning New England shingle house,

Or this hilltop home built for weekend entertaining in West Virginia.

And not to worry if you don’t have an interior designer for your project. Our in-house designer, Miriam Dillon (who was also trained as an architect), has done gorgeous work for our clients, such as the living room in this McLean home — an elegant study in white:

We also have a new senior architect, Michael Patrick, who is helping to expand our institutional work with churches and college campuses, such as the new president’s residence at the University of Maryland:

Co-founder Stephen Vanze continues to direct our historic restoration and renovation work with mixed-use commercial properties. He’s currently leading the transformation of the old Mr. Smith’s Saloon on M Street in Georgetown:
