The soaring new family room and expanded kitchen had to be soothing and comfortable. Our clients wanted calm, cool colors for this open environment, furthermore, and durable furnishings that could easily welcome a crowd. Designer Miriam Dillon responded with sophisticated finishes and fabrics, and rustic accents that tie the two spaces together.
Miriam chose Carrara marble for the island, and meticulously searched for backsplash tile that would echo the marble’s pale-gray veins. She added edge to the mix with rustic bar stools and custom, faux-painted metal legs supporting the island. The look flows through to the breakfast area with a custom banquette upholstered in pale gray and blue fabrics, while the metal table legs speak to their counterparts at the island’s bar.
The woven grasscloth wall covering carries a subtle metallic shimmer, which repeats itself in the backs of the bookcases in the family room. The geometric rug sets the calming, blue-and-gray color scheme, while accents such as eyelet linen draperies, carved-wood chandeliers, and the television console give the space its rustic edge.
