This Capitol Hill row house had been heavily remodeled in the 1970s.
However, the historic front facade had been left unchanged while the
interior had been reinvented as a large open first floor space. The
rear exterior facade had a curved roof green house which had all the
charm of a fast food restaurant.
The clients asked for interior renovations that included all floors.
Our design solution was an addition/renovation that was
contextual and new at the same time. The new rear
elevation grows from the first floor glass wall with the addition of
a glass tower and brise soleil. The renovated kitchen repeats the
themes of the house and includes a screen wall that recalls the rear
facade.
This project was featured in the article 'Victorian goes
Contemporary, "in the April 2006 issue of
Chesapeake Home.
