A Capitol Hill Rowhouse

Back | Next
Rear facade

This Capitol Hill row house had been heavily remodeled in the 1970s. However, the historic front facade had been left unchanged while the interior had been reinvented as a large open first floor space. The rear exterior facade had a curved roof green house which had all the charm of a fast food restaurant.

The clients asked for interior renovations that included all floors. Our design solution was an addition/renovation that was contextual and new at the same time. The new rear elevation grows from the first floor glass wall with the addition of a glass tower and brise soleil. The renovated kitchen repeats the themes of the house and includes a screen wall that recalls the rear facade.

This project was featured in the article 'Victorian goes Contemporary, "in the April 2006 issue of Chesapeake Home.
