Originally from the Pacific Northwest, Ben joined BarnesVanze Architects in 2021 after attending the University of Notre Dame (M.Arch). Prior to graduate school, he studied the liberal arts and received a B.A. in Politics in 2011. He worked in fundraising and development consulting before directing his path toward architecture.
Ben’s interest in design stems from a childhood curiosity in homes and from his experience in his grandfather’s woodworking shop. Over time, his appreciation for time-tested buildings and cities grew, and the opportunity to serve as a resident caretaker of a historic house in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park further channeled his desire to study and to practice architecture. At Notre Dame, Ben earned the Dean’s Graduate Award for Design Excellence in recognition of his thesis, which explored American market buildings and regional rail stations in Southeast Pennsylvania and beyond. Before joining BVA, Ben worked at offices in New York, Atlanta, and South Bend.
