St. Katharine Drexel
St. Katharine Drexel has determined a need to build a 1,000 seat Church, with Parish Hall and School, in Virginia. BVA has completed a Phase One Master Plan for a Parish Hall that will serve as a Church until the final church is constructed, reflecting the Owner’s desire that even the temporary church facility be a beautiful and sacred space. The design combines classic Roman basilican forms with local precedents to create a structure that respects and ennobles its Virginia location. The generous front portico recalls early Christian porch architecture, and welcomes Parishioners and Visitors into the simple, clear and reverent Nave inside, with its focus on the Sanctuary as the expression of Heaven on Earth and the meeting place of the Human and the Divine.
