Restored Colonial Revival

This classic red brick house, originally built in 1921, desperately needed an update when our clients reached out to BVA. The original builder was a commercial contractor working in the monumental core of DC. He often brought salvaged bits and pieces home from his job sites, so there were many quirky architectural elements to celebrate. However, several unfortunate “improvements” from earlier renovations had to be corrected, including blocked windows, an inefficient kitchen, a clunky primary suite layout, and a lack of comfortable family gathering spaces. By opening up the central circulation flow and replacing an unfortunate rear addition, we could preserve the original home’s charm while creating improved functionality and beauty.
